In the trendy area of East London sits the well-known vintage fashion central, Brick Lane. As you gander down past the entire vintage, leather shops and the infamous bagel bakery, you come across Kahalia café. It is hard to miss as the beautiful cakes poise themselves in the window.
Once you enter you get the warmth of coffee, cakes and toasted sandwiches wafting all around. Not to mention the extremely kind and friendly service that always makes a difference to your café experience. Kahaila Café is a charity and a community café, any profits made go in to local projects. All of their products are ethically and locally sourced whilst still delivering a strong level of quality and service. Their red velvet cake has to be the best red velvet I have ever had, so be sure to grab a slice!
Kahaila Café provides Climpson & Sons coffee and Yumchaa tea. Climpson & Sons roast is not complex for the taste buds. It is more of a simple good dark roast that sits well in a macchiato and a double shot flat white. Natural light beams from the large ceiling window and reflects off the white walls, making it a bright space. There are ever changing art works on the walls that are usually by local artists or local projects.
Kahalia is a large spaced café that welcomes all sized and aged laptops, they even have a ‘laptop table’ to fit about 8-10 people. However I prefer working by myself on one of the smaller tables. The style is very much a farmhouse feel, very relaxed and not pretentious. Many regulars set up their tab and work all day on their projects, errands and creativities, without feeling the pressure to eat drink and then leave. There are around 12 well-spaced tables that are not crowded around each other. Plug sockets hide themselves behind the chairs. They play music very low (usually) so that you’re not bombarded with another’s music taste whilst trying to relax, talk or work. Kahaila is a very popular place. especially on a Sunday due to the Sunday market, so come early.
Last note: REMEMBER TO HAVE THE RED VELVET CAKE!
